With a sharp mind and eloquence, the evening is guided through in a lively, eloquent and exciting manner by none other than the author herself. Accompanied by beguiling cocktails in THE KNAST Bar
The taste of freedom – a soirée with Ute Cohen
The most famous Marquis, our esteemed Donatien Alphonse de Sade, would envy us for this evening. But perhaps he would also be furious about so much indiscretion, because Ute Cohen is spilling the beans from the Frenchman’s sewing box, pardon – how could it be otherwise tonight – Jail!
The author shows that language and cuisine also fuel eroticism in her book “Der Geschmack der Freiheit. A history of the culinary arts”.
Even in prison, lust gets its money’s worth, as long as the word is not taken away. For the vice master Marquis de Sade, “only the lust of speech ignites the flesh.”
De Sade advocated satisfying the needs of the body – hunger, thirst and sexual desire – without false shame. He did not force himself. During his imprisonment in the infamous Bastille, the Marquis indulged in excessive pleasure and kept a record of it. De Sade indulged in food as much as he did in masturbation: He is said to have masturbated over 6,000 times in two and a half years. He revealed his sexual fantasies in The 120 Days of Sodom. He smuggled the manuscript out of prison in a godemichet, a special dildo that his wife had made by craftsmen in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. With equal voluptuousness and precision, he described the food he had eaten: boiled eggs, sole, spinach, poularde with truffles, jam made from grilled apples, charlotte and chocolate cream. The preferred inmate de Sade left the Bastille a more than well-fed man.
